Here's remake of the old Boz Scaggs (FM) hit, "I'll Be Long
Gone" (from 1969) which I hadn't been acquainted with before,
by someone named Katey Sagal; I even thought for the first
couple of bars of the vocal that this was Tracey Nelson (of
Mother Earth fame), who did a remake of same Scaggs song
a few years later (1972?) for a gospel-tinged album of respectable
note:

Look Back & Listen: "Brown Arms In Houston" - Orpheus

Author: yougotlucky215

Remember Orpheus, of the Boss-Town sound?

Calling folk-rock and maybe a few of you smooth jazz fans, too
or maybe some of you who may have enjoyed The Critters, or
sometimes the smoother sounds of the Lovin' Spoonful, or if you had
ever taken a liking to a record like Sandy by Ronny & The Daytonas;
well give a listen then, to this fine sun-dappled summertime sound
from 1969:

This was the next, and I think final of their only 2 impact records,
but it's a good one, the wistful and somewhat
elegiac (in a good way); 1-click to the whole song, gratuit:

An overlooked gem. New York has the excuse of having had this record
Rick Sklar'ed like so many other good tunes.
What happened elsewhere? Any way, I love it. Another nice song for
your custom-CD of cruisin' around summertime songs
on the softer side. The mood is a like when the time comes to pack
up and leave the beach down by the shore...

Lowell George article, Amon Duul II interview

Author: Jason Gross

Greetings,

In the latest issue of Perfect Sound Forever www.perfectsoundforever.com>, you'll find (among other things):

AMON DUUL II
Komische interview
"As one of the titans of 60's/70's German psychedelic rock (aka
Krautrock, aka Komische), most rock fans think they know about Amon
Duul II but do they really? We know about the great albums, the line-
ups and the discography but how much detail do we really know about
that band? As it turns out, very little, which is surprising for a
group like this. Their storied history is actually very sparse in
details. How could that be? Part of the problem is that there is
isn't much interview material out there to cover all the gaps, until
now.

Look back & listen: "Pretty Lady" - Lighthouse

Author: yougotlucky215

This record was criminally overlooked back in the day (1973-74), but
it got enough airplay in Boston for me to hear it, and want to go out
and buy this record; with one click here, you
can listen to the whole thing for the time being, and why not?
It's a great record, typically of the early 70's sound, and the tail
end of the Progressive Era, which would soon be giving way in another
year or two the Next Big Thing, or New Wave Era, or whatever you
wanted to call the next 10 years from 1975:

A very under-rated record. A gem, a certifiable blue diamond, even if
from an over-rated group.

Record Producer Michael Berniker Dead at 73

Author: treg
Date: Jul 28, 2008 22:15

Michael Berniker, a prolific record producer whose diverse projects
won nine Grammy Awards over four decades, died on Friday [July 25,
2008] in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He was 73.

The cause was complications from kidney disease, said his wife,
Heather.

Best known for producing the first three Barbra Streisand albums on
Columbia as well as numerous Broadway cast albums, Mr. Berniker also
produced Latin jazz, spoken word, comedy and classical records.

Other pop artists he produced included Eydie Gorme, Johnny Mathis and
Perry Como. Ben Webster, Charlie Rouse and Paquito D’Rivera were
among
the jazz musicians he produced. ā€œIrakere,ā€ his recording of the Cuban
fusion band of the same name (produced with Bert DeCoteaux), won a
1979 Grammy for best Latin recording.
