i only heard the last song of The National at the Chicago show (my
sister had to work late), but caught Modest Mouse again. the set
wasn't as good as in L.A., i thought, but they were still good.
Johnny Marr came out later and played with R.E.M. on "Fall On Me,"
which floated my boat something good :-) anyway, most of the people
i've talked to who saw The National liked them to some degree (from
the same degree as me to really really liking them). maybe i'll feel
differently when i see them in Atlanta, but right now, i'm still
pretty meh on them. the lead singer has very little charisma and
moves about like a spazzoid (honestly, he's one guy who needs to pick
up an instrument because he looks rather constipated and doesn't seem
to know what to with his free hand when he's singing).
R.E.M. were fantastic, as usual. i read a few comments in other
places bitching about the show and the setlist and how Michael's not
as energetic as he used to be and again, i'm just baffled by it all.
i'm not sure if the complaints are from younger fans who don't know
any better and expect too much or older fans who do know better and
expect too much anyway, but it kind of irritated me to see it.
