Lurkers Unite !

Hey ya all. I know you're out there. I can hear you breathing....;-)

We have an album ready to come out (well..guess it's already leaked. My...
that didn't take long) and the buzz is very positive. We have a US tour just
starting and an overseas tour in the works.

So where is everybody?

Time to come out of lurker mode and talk about the album, the tour , and the
band.

Call now. Operators are standing by...:-)

Andrew

After listening to the single 3 1/2 times about a month ago I've been
avoiding pre-release, internet marketing sorta stuff for the past couple
of weeks. Me old fashioned. Me want physical product in hands first.
Play disc on hi-fi. I don't always act this way, but seeing as I haven't
enjoyed their past 10 years or so of work this time I'm optimistic and
will take it slow.

After April Fool's Day I'll check out the recent live shows. If I see
'em on Dime or whatnot I'll download 'em and listen later.

I ripped the npr recording of the sxsw performance and have been
enjoying that a bit. Based on the live versions of the new songs I
anticipate I will like the new album.

I am not sure my enthusiasm for any (rock) music is as intense as it
was ten or certainly twenty years ago, but it will be fun to have a
new R.E.M. disc to enjoy. I recently did some solo driving downstate,
a few hours each way, and one of the fun things was to put the entire
discography as MP3s on a CDROM in my new car and listen to their body
of work in order. (I didn't quite make it to AtS, I should admit.)

Wow! Hiya Andrew and Eric and Ron! (This presumes, of course, that
anyone remembers me)

Just happened to flip through the Best Buy ad this morning -- which I
don't do very often anymore, because I'm old now, and I get that deer-
in-the-headlights eyeglaze as new technologies whizz past ... so it's
lucky I did, because I saw the ad for Accelerator. CDs, how charmingly
old-fashioned! Just nice to know they still make them.

First thought: Oh, swell, they've found another new way to repackage
old material? So I came here to get the poop. And let's hope it's not
poop. A new-new R.E.M. album to accompany spring (if it ever really
comes to us here in the midwest, grrr) is just what I need.
Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleeeeease let it have at least a few moments that
feel like the old R.E.M., so I can selfishly feel a little like the
old me again, too!

Well, Andrew, I went through this whole psychological trauma ... all I
could think was, I don't want to be disappointed again. And I'm
someone who even loved Reveal ... but AtS sent me crying in
desperation into the arms of other bands and singers (who shall go
nameless) for a four-year fling, so ... Tuesday went by ... and
Wednesday ...

Finally broke down yesterday after seeing them on The Colbert Report
and getting "that old feeling." I forgot that Best Buy doesn't open
until ten, so had to go next door to Target instead, where I was happy
to see Accelerator was sold out, except for one last copy of the
deeeeluxe DVD version, so I grabbed it.

And then I didn't listen to it until just now, in the wee hours when I
knew I wouldn't be interrupted. And I gotta say ... me likey! I like
it whole bunches, which I feared I'd never say of a new R.E.M. album
ever again. The songs are good, the performance is solid and Monster-
esque, and I'm rather amused by the way the tracks barely have a
breath between them, challenging us to keep up with THEM, after all
our whining at their having gone soft. Take it, bitches!

Can it really be that our boys are back???? --Bergie

i didn't even bother with ATS; heard most of it on a fanclub sneak
peek, and frankly wasn't interested in hearing it again.

but this new one should be making its way thru the mails at the
moment, and what i've heard so far sounds pretty good. and hey, it
was ten bucks. (list is something like 1
--for 35 mins of music?
wtf?)
