Well...this was a special that I've been planning on revisiting for quite some
time: "A Fistful of Dub: A Dread Western Special". The Echo Chamber heads out to
the wild, wild west... The two anchors of the show (and the two items that were
the germ of the project) were Roots Control's fantastic Dread Western album, and
the Ennio Morricone soundtrack to the spaghetti western "The Good, The Bad, and
the Ugly". A big chunk of the show comes from the two Trojan Records "western
reggae" compilations: "The Big Gundown" and "For a Few Dollars More", along with
"The Wild Bunch" on RAS Records. On top of all these classic ska & rocksteady
tunes (with titles like "Guns of Navarone", "Django Shoots First", "Death Rides
a Horse", and "Dollar In the teeth") we had such great tunes as "Looks Like
We're Shy One Horse" (by Colourbox), "Mentally Ska'd" (By 2Badcard), "Holy
Cowboys" (by All India Radio), and "Version Pardner" (from The Clash). To get
some dub in the mix, we included "AU Dub (aka 24 Karat Dub)" from The
Technician; "Grinning In Your Face" from Dubblestandart's latest album; "Fistful
of Peanuts" from Spacemonkeyz vs. Gorillaz; and several dubs from "Dread
Western". Finally, DJ Baby Swiss layed down a new Mutant Frogs track just for
the special show called "Cowfrog"! What a riddim-ridin' shootout in the ol' Echo
Chamber!
