Yes vs Genesis

Both bands seem to be the most popular of the real prog bands. Tull,
Floyd and Rush are not considered as genuine prog bands.

Also among the big 4 (Yes, Gensis, King Crimson, ELP), Yes and Genesis
have sold the most and probably have the most influence among the neo-
prog bands. And lets not forget both their lead singer (Anderson/
Gabriel) and frontman were major weirdo/hippies

My thoughts on the too...

Yes - had better melodies, were more straightforward and more ROCK and
were also better live
Genesis - were more POP, less wanky, and more arty

Both sold out in the 80s
Genesis went adult contemporary and Yes went "power rock" if that
means anything.

I think Yes sold out lesser than Genesis, especially since Yes still
play their prog songs, while Genesis seem to concentrate on their 80s
stuff a lot more.

i'm really surprised someone would still put a "yes vs genesis" thread still
in 2007...people were debating that in the seventies, and the problem is
that today everyone has his very own definition of progressive rock. And it
seems to me one had the pretention yet put a definitive answer to that.

I had the same thought. Has this guy been sleeping for 30 years in a back
yard bomb shelter?

Yes had two drummers, doofus. And Genesis has had three.
