Can Beatles' Abbey Road medley be considered an epic in rock music?
What about Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother? That has got to the first
epic song, if not the Beatles song.
Velvet Underground had Sister Ray in 1967 which is earlier than both
these bands. But was that a real epic or a collection of noises?

Roy Orbison's operatic songs had an epic quality.
The second Fugs album had a very long song on it. So did Love's second
album.
Desolation Row is quite the song. Is it an epic? Sad Eyed Lady of the
Lowlands is pretty epic.
Good Rockin' Tonight, especially when Elvis did it, was epic.
