I have always found Trey Gunn to come off as if he's some kind of wide
eyed 14 year old whenever I've read anything he's written. This is no
different. Although, granted, after this almost right off the bat...
"He and Robert have had a long history together, from the trio of
Bowie records in the 1970s, to their own duo albums that, essentially,
birthed the concept of ambient music"
...I scrolled through the rest of it pretty quick. (OK, I admit it - I
stopped altogether.)
Check your album credits, Trey. And you might want to do a little
"ambient" research, while you're at it.

OK, I get the part about F/E really not having invented
Ambient, but what's the clue in TG's album credits?

Ummm - that Fripp's not on Low or Lodger? (And, for that matter, I"m
not even sure how many tracks other than "Heroes" itself he played on
on Heroes.)
Also another good chance to point out that Tony Visconti actually
produced all three of those albums, and deserves every bit as much
credit for them as Eno - perhaps a little more, even.

OK, I misunderstood your comment. I thought that you
were saying that Gunn should look at his own album
credits because therein lie some clues that would
provide info about people who were doing Ambient prior
to Fripp/Eno...

No - I was referring to the fact that when somebody says something
like "He (Eno) and Robert have had a long history together, from the
trio of Bowie records in the 1970s..." - anything else they have to
say from that point on is going to be a liittle suspect to me.
Usually it's so-called "music journalists" that do that these days.
It's kind of depressing to see it coming from an actual musician.

The only "long history" they had together was, apart from playing on
Heroes, their own albums together and on some of Eno's albums. If what
was written on myspace is definitely from Trey Gunn, he should go talk
with his buddy Bob, or it could be an imposter which myspace seems to be
filled with of late.

I have not seen much to indicate that musicians are better historians
than journalists. (Hey, it isn't their job.)

To hell with historian. Whatever happened to just paying attention?

I have a papercut "Eno, Bowie, Fripp, deep in the Hansa bunker" back
from those days.

Yep.
Mike: it's definitely Trey Gunn, not a myspace imposter, I have
exchanged emails with him last summer before his (KTU) show in
Victoriaville, QC. Earlier this fall, he also blogged the very abrupt,
non-professional, ridiculous, and useless answer of an obscure, rather
unknown, Romanian musician, who he (Trey!) had invited for myspace
friendship. I LOL-ed.
