Many think that I just praise these three bands all of the time. They
were three of the most consistent and "challengingly entertaining"
bands of the 70s. But they did make some subpar material which are
these days for some reason considered to be their best efforts....
beats me.

Physical Graffiti (A-):
The first Led Zeppelin album to have a siginificant amount of average
songs. Custard Pie is not nearly as mindblowing as the other album
openers before (Good Times Bad Times, Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant
Song, Black Dog, The Song Remains the Same). The Rover is way too long
and has quite a bit of not so interesting wanking. In my Time of Dying
is at least 2 minutes longer inspite of some powerhouse drumming by
Bonzo. Houses of the Holy is a reject from the previous album after
all. And sounds like a reject. I am not too fond of the repetitive and
stupid lyriced Trampled Underfoot. Kashmir is excellent. In the Light
has a overlong intro but it is a nice song. Bron Yr Aur is a great
instrumental and very tasteful. Down by the Seaside is okay. A little
too mushy IMO. Ten Years Gone is quite underrated and in my opinion
the best song on the album. Night Flight is not A material. The Wanton
Song is boring. Boogie with Stu is quite interesting but it is still
not their best. I like Black Country Woman -- a very unque Zeppelin
songs with sparse instrumentation. Sick Again is sickeningly generic.
Overall a good album that has many good song but a let down in quality
from the other five before.

Wish You Were Here (B+)
I used to like this album a lot. Now I pretty much hate it. It is just
overly sentimental to me at times. Wish You Were Here is quite melodic
for a Floyd song. But if I want to listen to a good melody I would
rather listen to Moody Blues or may be the Beatles. The songs is too
much off a balad for me. Welcome to the Machine is listless. The creep
synth effect is nothing groundbreaking as it is made out to be.
Kraftwerk had been doing this thing for years and were better. Have a
Cigar is the best song on the album and the only one that rocks. SOYCD
would have been a great 10 minute song but it got strecthed out for
freaking half hour. Overrated, I would take Atom Heart Mother or
Meddle over this crap anyday. And it is nowhere in the league of Pipe
or Dark Side in terms of EVERYTHING.

Animals (B)
Even worse than WYWH. This rocks much more and has more bite. But also
stinks much more. There is hardly anything memorable on the album. The
lyrics suck. Waters' singing is actrocious and there are too many
generic Gilmour solos (most of them could have been on a Bryan Adams
album). If I want to listen to good solos, I would listen to Deep
Purple, not frigging Floyd and their calculated wanking. Dogs is a
pile of dog poop. It drags on and on for 17 minutes and some really
cheesy synth effects. Pigs on the Wing are two throwaway acoustic
numbers. Pigs is probably the best but it still doesnt have much going
on. Sheep is quite unmemorable. This is Floyd's only proper attempt at
being a prog band. And they sucked at it. Good they didnt try this
again.

Going For the One (B+)
Yes try to get back to the Fragile glory days. Unfortunately for them,
they had lost momentum by then. They all had solo careers by this time
and things had probably gone to their heads. Anderson is sounding like
a new age preacher on this album. Wakeman is very dominant here and
that results in too much of keyboards for my liking... one big reason
I hate Genesis. I guess Howe got pushed in the background because his
solo albums didnt fare as well as Anderson's and Wakeman's. Anyway,
the problem with this album is none of the songs are A or A+. They are
all merely good. Awaken is quite boring for its 15 minutes and nowhere
in the league of Close to the Edge or Gates of Delerium. It is almost
as tedious as the 4 songs on Tales. But at least the songs on Tales
were somewhat memorable and ONLY WERE RUINED because of excessive
padding. Going For the One is the only song on the album that rocks
but not in a good way at all. Parallels is drenched in organ and gets
irritating after a while. Wonderous Storries is good but is too poppy
for my taste. Turn of the Century might be the best song but it could
have been more succinct. Overall quite disappointing considering this
almost the same band which Fragile and Close to the Edge.
