This is not a list of the most popular bands in the genre. This is a
list of what I think are the best in the genre

The four musketeers of British Invasion
- Beatles, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Who

The four musketeers of Progressive Rock
- Can, Pink Floyd, Yes, Van der Graaf Generator

The four musketeers of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
- AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin

Let the jokes/abuses/sarcasm begin ;-)
