That's actually not "totally" true. Witness Voodoo Chile on Electric
Ladyland. This was a studio "jam" and at times, improv. There may
have been some ground rules, but it is a longish song and not mapped
out like other songs. It may sound from a live venue, but those are
people in the studio with the musicians.
You are correct for the most part. If I sat down and concentrated on
this, I could probably come up with a few more examples, but this is
not a contest.
