Stand Up And Be Counted! State WHY You HATE Some Bands

We hear a lot of knee-jerk posturing about bands we don't like, here
on rmp.

Why's that? Seems like many of us here are fairly well along with our
vocabulary. Maybe the stoopid speak standard of UseNet or Internet
usage in general seems to fill that spot of a real answer, go
figure...

Why not tell us WHY something sux instead of saying:

Yes SUCKS!
Genesis SUCKS!
Marillion SUCKS!
King Crimson SUCKS!
VDGG Sucks!
Reo Speedwagon SUCKS!

Ooops... wrong genre - I digress...

Many of us have requested that our resident list monger Raja to tell
us why these bands SUCK and he always says:

"I'll get back to you"

I haven't seen it yet.

I don't post a lot here but just have to say that the entire notion of
bands "sucking" is utterly ridiculous. Even REO Speedwagon has fans who
like their music and, honestly, I could not care less. Unless one sets up
criteria for liking or disliking music, some sort of benchmark, everything
is merely personal taste and nothing more. Benchmarks themselves are
highly subjective and are only valid if a large enough sampling of people
agree upon them *and* are probably only valid for the length of a specific
discussion.

Agreed.

There are genres (whatever that subjective word means sometimes) that
I'm not too fond of, but some of the "artistes" are pretty damn good
at what they do and I can respect them for that, if nothing else.

Did somebody say ring modulator?

I understand your frustration. It would be good to have people actually
deconstruct the music they like/don't like and qualify why it is they feel
the way they do. As far as I'm concerned, it's very difficult for me to
say, "It sucks", because I have a strong notion of personal taste and
realize that often my enjoyment or lack of enjoyment is simply that.

It always amazes me that a person can hear a piece of music and think it's
beautiful when another person can listen to the same piece and think it's
ugly.

Have I ever told you my position on that one?

"Everything sounds better with ring modulation. Or at least worse."

That one ended up being somebody's sig line for awhile.

Wow. A real thread. No lists.

And what if I like them? Damned, no thread for me... (this is even
valid for REO Speedwagon... the two or so songs I know from them
I happen to like when in the right mood at the right time. But I
would _never_ buy an album from them.)

But I am getting more and more of a curious feeling who will
answer this try to break up the stagnation.
