I just discovered a dance-beat on a Van der Graaf album.
On _Godbluff_.
"Sleepwalkers".
That bridge-- you know, dadada*dat*dahhhh dadada*dat*dat*dahhh, etc.
I wouldn't call it funky, and it's kinda clunky-- it sounds a little like
Beethoven trying to boogie-- but by God you could dance to it.

It sounds lousy. Compressed and clipped and EQ'd to try and make it
sound like a Staind record. Record your LP to a CD and be happy.

Wow, yeah! Sounds like a bit of sax in there too - never heard that on a
VdGG before...

I danced to 'Arrow' back in 1975: 'Sleepwalkers' was too easy for me.

That guy with the bifurcated last name who wrote the VDGG fan book a
few years back accurately called it "galumphing".

I know when I finally picked up a replacement CD of _Godbluff_ a year or
two ago and started me reacquaintance I was really startled by how
(literally) bellicose half the album was-- well, two songs out of four,
"Arrow" and "Scorched Earth".
The Vietnam War, maybe?
