I strongly disagree with Neal Morse's spiritual message, but he's
entitled to his beliefs. What annoys me is that his Christian-themed
work is much weaker than his songwriting in Spock's Beard and
Transatlantic: it feels like he has dumbed down his music in an effort
to reach a wider audience. I'm less familiar with his most recent solo
work: does it compare any better to his earlier work?

I thought _?_ was very good but _Sola Scriptura_ was somewhat of a redundant
listen, filled with "more of the same"
of Neal's signature sounds and textures. I didn't really like the format of
3 long pieces cobbled together with one short one
as opposed to making it more song based. _?_ flowed much nicer for me plus
the guest players added different sounds. Steve Hackett's
solo on the song "12" is phenomonal.
I think he has reached the point where he might want to work with other
players and actually let them contribute to the
finished product. That would not have to be another "supergroup" scenario
like Transatlantic just more of a real band effort.
