Fifth International Days of the Nyckelharpa
at castle
BURG FÜRSTENECK
(Germany)
October 2 - 5, 2008
… more than just a weekend of playing!
The nyckelharpa is a bowed string instrument and is similar both to
the fiddle and to the hurdy gurdy. A short bow is used.
The nyckelharpa has wooden keys that slide under the strings and have
tangents set perpendicularly to the keys that reach up and stop
(shorten) the melody string. It resembles moveable frets which move
to
meet the string, rather than pressing the string against a
fingerboard
or frets.
This invitation is intended for people from everywhere with all
levels
of nyckelharpa experience (as well as folks motivated to learn) to
play, share experiences, and take lessons together.
