I was going to reply to this earlier, but the FIRST thing that hit me was
"Satisfaction" by the STones or even "Think For YOurself" off of "Rubber
Soul" ......but then I realized that I'm confusing with "hard rock", but for
me, that marks rock 'n roll's graduating to the '70s gradually ....

Stupid question. You can eliminate two of them by checking the dates.
The Beatles cover version of a Top Notes song is the earliest but it's
pop, not rock. So that leaves The Kinks as the winner from this list.
