1981 - to start with...

I still haven't consulted reference texts in doing this - but I did
find a list I had started on this very topic fron a few years ago, but
which I did also compile just off the of my head at the time. (Pardon
the all caps, that's the way I had it in the list.)

As I say - I bet I could double this list, easy. There's tons more UK
pop stuff from this period (particularly things in the Cherry Red
orbit), and I also haven't even touched jazz here yet.

Also - don't take this as a blanket "I approve of all this stuff"
list. Some of it - a lot it, really - I do love. But there are also
plenty of things on here that I'm either lukewarm to, or not overly
fond of. But I think everything here can at least, in some way, be
considered a "notable" recording. And with the possible exception of
1967, I don't think you can find another single year that had both the
quality and quantity, not to mention variety, than this stuff.

Great stuff! A return to rock after the Euro-synth pop of the previous two
albums, not that there was anything wrong with them at all...

"Don't Shoot Me" is worth the price of the album on its own...

And then in 1982 you got access to a terminal
that wasn't a Hazeltine 2000.

For any good Jazz you would have to go back to the 1960s and before IM
very HO. Most everything since then doesn't do it for me. Perhaps
because the art form quit evolving. All this noisy jazz you hear these
days or some old school wannabe does not hold a candle to the greats.

Looking at your list there is not much worth listening too IMHO. 81
was a bad year over all so it is not your fault. That said 81 is still
better then this decade other then some of the Kings X releases...

I think "Upstairs" is one of their greatest lyrics ever. And that's
saying something.
