My next podcast will be dedicated to the female singer I would have
wanted to hear live..above any other:Lotte Lehmann, and for the
men...guess....Caruso LIVE...I am told we only get a portion of what
that was like live.
Who are the two singers-male/female that you would have loved to have
heard?...If you are young, you might pick someone we oldies could tell
you about..So make a choice...Charlie

You see,Logan asks a very nice question about Cenerentola..and most
people answer intelligently and in detail..but in the middle..comes
Bollman aka Ancona to stand out like a sore......thumb (or a lower
part of the anatomy) attempting to destroy the thread with the usual
horrendous garbage..and that is exactly why we cannot grow...as long
as he is allowed to post...this forum will be corrupted and people
will be discouraged..He LIVES for this..People who have no life feel
that they can accomplish something (pathetically) in their delusional
world. Bollman has always been the prime rotten apple here..and his
disease has sadly been catching ..He loves this attention.
I guess we have to pity him..ch

Here is the correct view of the subject.
1. Many of these recordings and videos violate copyright and are
therefore illegal. Often the original copying was done illegally by
people sneaking recorders into venues in violation of house rules
posted in the hall or printed in the program or on the tickets.
2. The pirates do not pay for the cost of the original broadcast or
performance, do not pay royalties or fees, and are therefore unjustly
enriching themselves.
3. If the copyright holders don't sue the pirates, this is almost
implied consent or amounts to a policy of tolerance. Rosen and
Handelman are operating openly on a grand scale, so the copyright
holders would have no problem finding them, suing them, and shutting
them down.
4. No doubt the illegal recordings are tremendously valuable to many
fans, to many artists, and even to opera as an art form.

Let's face it....a very large number of singers would never be known
beyond the theatres where a limited number of people saw them live
were it not for the icons like the late Eddy Smith and those who
followed him in distributing thousands of live performances.
I recall fondly how the late Leyla Gencer signed my
"Gencer Catalogue Card" and how a few of us purchased microphones
solely for recording some favorite singers, who were so grateful to
have recordings of live stuff.
Here is a small list of singers so many of us have
treasured owing to the "sneaky pirates," and many of us know/knew some
of them personally and/or have at least received lovely thank-you
notes for putting them out....and if we did not know them, we know
that so many opera lovers have the opportunity...

RE the poster Identified by CH as 'Ourrasshoalle', said cretin is a
representative member of BRMOOOOO®, as is Merdy slaturdde; so as for
it's being 'the place to go for enlightened Opera discussions' - nix
on *that* murky myth!
