Today I saw an obituary in Delhi edition of Times of India for Mohd.
Rafi published by a 'Mohd. Rafi Memorial Society'. It might be more
common but I happen to see such a tribute to a legend these days for
the first time.
It says -
"To live in the hearts of entire world is never to die. khudaa kare ke
qayaamat ho aur tuu aa_e"
Well said.

Doesn't sound novel in this age but it must have been a trendy idea 4
decades back....

When Shakti Samanta was shooting the song Mere Sapno Ki Rani for
Aradhana , he couldn't get combined dates from Rajesh Khanna and
Sharmila Tagore. Sharmila Tagore couldn't make it to Darjeeling and so
only Rajesh Khanna's portions were shot, showing him driving the jeep
across the hills. Sharmila Tagore's footage was separately shot in
Mumbai where a train set was erected in a studio. The two footages
were later edited together to appear as if in the same frame.
The song went on to become a huge hit.

Hi all,
Two days back, Ishmeet Singh, the winner of Voice of India on Star TV died
due to drowning in the swimming pool in Maldives, a tiny state nation in the
Indian ocean. He was there to participate in a stage show.
He was only 19.

PS: The educational institutes run by Gurudwara committee declared a day off
to mourn the death. Punjab state will accord him a state funeral. Even the
PM has expressed shock and grief over this tragic death.

To be honest, though I am researching cine music of Hindustani/Tamil
films for about 30 years or so, I have never known/studied the
concepts/delineations in 'raagas' that bountifully exist.
However, ever since my the age of 7 from where I still remember, even
the least; about MUSIC in a general term; is my father ( who knew
Sanskrit) daily reading for an hour or so the Valmiki Ramayan in
Sanskrit and explaining to us( kids then ..5 of us) the meaning in our
mothertongue/Tamil accordingly. This was around 1947 or so onwards, I
firmly visualise these scenarios).
To all my RMIMers/music loving friends of cine music, please NOW
compare this with your individual experiences)
Continuing further: About my father's READING of the EPIC in Sanskrit
every morning....I distinctly remember that used to read
it ...musically ( though he never had learnt any music at any time) in
beautiful and melodiously a few lines and pause...explain the meaning
of what he read and carry on again another few lines ...musically and
melodiously in various tunes. This MELODIC POISON has been IMBIBED in/
by me ( or call it : entered in the blood-stream of my entire system
from that age of 7 !! )

RMIMers/RMICers,
This is the well-known Shuddh Saarang-based composition (MD=Yashwant
Deo), with lyrics by Sant Gora Kumbhaar. I have the song on cassette -
the trouble is, a friend inadvertently taped over 3-5 seconds of the
song in the early going...does anyone here have a digitized copy they
might be willing to share?
Thanks in advance,
Sanjeev
