Narsinghji,

your "classification" of songs had me in splits ;-) wonderfully
written !

  Let's Go Back: C.I.D. (1956)

Reviving a series I temporarily discontinued early last year, I want
to talk about another black-n-white classic that is remembered today
more for its scintillating music than its thrilling entertainment.
While Raj Khosla's deft direction and Dev Anand's star power pulled
people toward the film again and again, often in reruns too, it was
O.P. Nayyar, who stole the grand show with his evergreen songs, like
'ai dil hai mushkil jiinaa yahaa.N', 'leke pahalaa pahalaa pyaar',
'aa.Nkho.n hii aa.Nkho.n me.n', and 'buujh meraa kyaa naa.Nv re'.
This album was a great singing showcase for both Geeta Dutt and
Shamshad Begum, and it was tough to decide whom you favored if it
really came to that. Those, with a taste for rustic charm, fell heart
and soul for Shamshad's full-throated rendition of 'leke...

Song: muhabbat zinda rahti hai
muhabbat mar nahiin sakti
aji insaan kya ye to
khudaa se dar nahiin sakti

Film: Changez Khan (1957)
Singer: Mohammed Rafi
Music: Hansraj Behl
Lyrics: Qamar Jalalabadi
*ing: Premnath, Bina Rai

A fairly well-known tune from Hansraj Behl today. This is one of the
earliest Rafi songs I heard, first from my father who used to love to
hum it, followed by an actual viewing of it in Chhaayaageet back in
India.

Gawd, this is getting predictable. And also into a full blown menace.
After Metro's 'Shaayad yehi hai pyaar' and 'Ah Reum Dah Oon Sa Ram',
here's another song lifted note-to-note by Pritam from yet another
Korean television series! The song? 'Pehli nazar mein', sung by Atif
Aslam in the film Race. Details and audio clips, here!

  Announcing "Satish Kalra Sammaan"

Author: Vinay
Date: Jan 29, 2008 06:57

Many of you may remember that last year as part of RMIM Puraskaar we
had a special award for soundtracks that got the RMIM approval for
entry into the virtual RMIM hall-of-fame. I other words, it was a
stamp of excellence. The honor was called "RMIM sammaan".

It is a benchmark honor and is to be given only to those albums that
are deemed outstanding by the Puraskaar process. This makes it
possible that there are more than one albums deserving the award in a
year (e.g. last year 'Omkara' and 'Rang De Basanti' both received it).
Conversely there may be years when no album gets it.

In honor and memory of Satish ji, we are going to call this sammaan
'Satish Kalra Sammaan' from this year onwards.
