Pt. Ram Narayan (the legendary sarangi player), in his recent
interview on Radio Farishta (WorldSpace) claimed that he composed the
songs of the film Garam Coat, along with a classical singer from Delhi
named Amarnath (not to be confused with Pt. Amarnath - Husnlal
Bhagatram's brother).
Does the Geet Kosh mention this? Has Ram Narayan composed for other
films? I always thought he played mostly in the classical world and
did not do much in the Hindi Film music world.
Another thing he mentioned was that he composed some of the individual
sarangi passages in some of the songs that he played. It seems like
the Music Directors let the musicians compose their own segments in a
song. A similar comment was made by Jairam Archarya in his interview
on Radio Farishta couple of months ago. Was this a common practice?
Cheers
