ALLAH in the name of The Most Affectionate, the Merciful.
All praise unto Allah, Lord of all the worlds.
The most Affectionate, The Merciful.
Master of the Day of Requital.
We worship You alone, and beg You alone for help.
Guide us in the straight path.
The path of those whom You have favoured. Not of those who have earned
Your anger and nor of those who have gone astray.

There was a music director BrijLal Verma who composed for several
films between 1031 and 136.
Does any member has more information about the MD?
Professor Sahib may be of help.

Footage of the English version of Guide

Check this out folks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TWhcbrZ6sM&feature=user

An extremely rare footage of the English Guide. It is different from
the Hindi Guide. It seems a little strange to hear people talking in
English. THe dialogues are also interesting. I wonder who wrote them
for the English Guide.

To make this musically relevant, the background in the first piece
sounds very Malgudi Dayish.

Enjoy!

  Recycling poems as film lyrics

Author: vijaykumark

I had toyed with the idea of doing a quiz for the recent
RMIM meet with this topic, but did not have enough
time to do justice to it.

The songs I know of are
- ambar kii ek paak suraahii
- ae gham-e-dil kyaa karoon (Talat, not Asha)
- jinhen naaz hai hind par vo kahaan hain
- ho ka majboor mujhe
- ham hai.n mataa-o-kuuchaa

The original poems for some of these are available online
and one can see the ways in which the song has been
adapted from the original. At least in the case of ambar kii
and ae gham-e-dil, the song is worse off for having the
lyrics mangled.

Abhay mentioned Neeraj having done the same but
I am not sure which song that was - was it
svapn jha.De phuul se?

Singer query on "Do Akalmand hue fikrmand"

"Do akalmand hue fikarmand" from the 1966 Kishore starrer, Akalmand,
is billed as a Rafi-Kishore duet, but I've always thought Mahendra
Kapoor sang a line or two in the song as well.

Here is a link to the video of the song. Would all you sharp-eared
RMIMERs give it a listen and tell me if you hear Mahendra Kapoor (from
3:49 - 3:54) as well, or if I'm just losing it.

  Music directors - work gaps

Was listening to a lovely Udit song recently - 'tu kaun kahan se aayi
hai...', from 'Dil Pardesi Ho Gayaa'.

Going by IMDB, release year was 2003 (seems it was later..2005 or
2006?) and music director Usha Khanna returned to the recording studio
after a hiatus of eight years; with the previous project being another
Sawan Kumar Tak film, 'Sanam Harjai', in 1995.

Again going by IMDB, O.P. Nayyar returned after twelve years in the
1992 'Nischaiy'.

As far as I know, neither of these back-end films for the two music
directors were production-delayed films, with the music recorded years
earlier.

It is a testimony to the music director's talent to be able to keep
skills honed, motivation intact, and networks maintained, to be able
to take responsibility for the music of a Hindi film; not an easy
task, regardless of how the album plays out in the market.
