In the recent discussions on Ketan's quiz there was a comment on "Mere
dushman" being an unparalleled example of "bad-dua" in Hindi film
music.
Now, I rather like the song but I don't think there's anything too
great in the music or the singing. It is really the lyrics which
transform the song - it is truly an unbelievable outpouring of hatred
and I, at least, don't know of any song which can match that. So, it
is entirely the lyrics of the song which makes it go from a normal
song to, in my mind, an above average song.
I was wondering if there are other songs like this - where the lyrics
transform the song. And one can't just choose songs with beautiful
lyrics (say an "Ek ladki ko dekha" or a "Chaudhvin ka Chand") but a
song which is made by the lyrics.
I am sure there will be huge variance in people's choices. What I
would choose are
1. "Mere dushman", Aaye din Bahar ke
2. "Guzren hai aaj ishq se", Dil diya dard liya
3. "Rahte the kabhi jinke dil me", Mamta
and to a lesser extent
