  Cinemasangeet.Com - Site not loading

Author: Dr.Mandar

This is to announce that my site Cinemasangeet.Com has been either
hacked or has come under a virus attack. The database is corrupted
with some extraneous malicious code. The Brinkster.Com server (where
it is hosted) does not have a viable backup for restoring. I had not
(in fact never!) done any db backup and technical guys who had made
the site's template and CMS for me are now trying to restore it
piecemeal.

It is an unfortunate incident which again reminds how difficult it is
to keep a major web project going!

Sorry to all the readers/members of the site. Efforts are on for
putting it back on tracks but how long it would take is not known at
the moment.

  Bhoopali/Bhoop a "rare" raga??

Heard Ajoy Chakraborty presenting "Sangeet Sarita" on Vividh Bharti
this morning. He is running a series where he is supposed to be
presenting different facets of Bade Ghulam Ali's repertoire. Today, he
introduced the BGAK recording saying (not verbatim), "This is the raga
Bhoopali, which not sung by too many singers. BGAK was one of of the
few who sang it." He then presented snatches of vilambit and drut
recordings by BGAK.

AFAIK, Bhoopali is the same as Bhoop - isn't it? If yes, where does
Ajoy C get off saying it is not sung by too many people? If not, what
is the difference? To my (completely untutored) ears, the recording he
played sounded like Bhoop alright.

Interesting sidelight: the interviewer was Kabban Mirza (of "Razia
Sultan" fame). This series was apparently recorded in 1995. Any idea
what he does today? Does he sing at all?

Warm regards,
Abhay

Enlightenment in the Music Industry: Tribe of Noise Launches Lawful
Music Download Alternative
Wednesday July 16, 7:45 am ET

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, a new music
platform will open and storm the Bastille of the music industry. Tribe
of Noise is expected to kick up quite some dust by offering a lawful
alternative for free music downloads.

Last year's artists like Moby, Nine Inch Nails and Radio Head made the
first moves towards an alternative form of music distribution. But
Tribe of Noise takes it one step further. At Tribe of Noise, composers
upload their music under a Creative Commons license that allows fans
and professionals to download, distribute and build upon it.
