Hi RMIMers:

I am watching a bunch of dhaarmik movies that I got from MLK last July.
No matter when they are made, they are safe to watch because the music
is melodious, not-ear-piercing-instrumental and there is no danger of 15
plus girls suddenly dancing in the streets of a European city!

They also usually have interesting, not-run-of-the-mill combos because
the production values are low.

In this movie, I just saw Jivan singing song playbacked by Manna De! At
the moment I can't recall another song picturized on Jivan.

  Remembering Chetan

surhall@gmail.com
hello. i have this story today.
Remembering Chetan Anand And His 'Neecha Nagar'

Not many know it, but 'Neecha Nagar', a film by Chetan Anand - one of
Indian cinema's pioneers - preceded Satyajit Ray's 'Pather Panchali'
by nine years to win the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival in 1946.
It was perhaps the first-ever recognition of an Indian film in an
international film festival.

But while 'Pather Panchali' and other Ray films have continued to win
acclaim at home and abroad - more abroad than home - 'Neecha Nagar',
made during the last phase of the freedom movement (1945-46) with all
the restrictions the British could enforce, was never released
commercially in India.

The film was the highlight of a three-week long retrospective of films
by Chetan Anand at the India International Centre here that ended
Thursday.

  Help with a track (please)...

Author: Egbert Sousè

Hi,

Back in the mid-1990's on Andy Kershaw's BBC radio 1 music program, he
played a track called Soho Road 2 by Planet Earth, from their album
Level One on the Roma Music Bank label.

It's a Bhangra track with a little rap in the middle.

Anyone know a place where I could buy / might find the CD?

Many thanks

E.S.

It's Breaking News: On its Way to the Theatres!!!!

Author: Kaushal S. Inamdar

Dear Friends,

Finally, after a long wait, my first Hindi film as a music director -
It's Breaking News - releases all over India in the next week. The
release date is 5th of October 2007. This film has excited me on more
than one count. First, it was all in the family as you might say, the
film being directed by my brother, Vishal. Secondly, it was a subject
that was really attracting a lot of attention and debate. Thirdly, I
was a contributor to the film in more than one way. I also wrote the
lyrics and believe it or not, also wrote the dialogues for one scene!

I have started a series related to the film - It's Breaking News - on
my blog. I would greatly appreciate if you would have a look at the
blog and let me know your responses. I am looking forward for some
great wishing on your part! I am also planning to put the songs that I
did for the film on my blog. So please do keep reading and letting me
know.

There was one other request. If you could forward this to all your
friends, I would be most obliged. I hope my writings on the blog can
persuade you to watch the film and also persuade you to persuade your
friends to do the same!

Bangladesh Jails 20 Year Old Cartoonist To Protect Allah's Honor

http://www.newagebd.com/2007/sep/19/front.html#4

New Age, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Wednesday, September 19, 2007

The interim government on Tuesday arrested a cartoonist and
confiscated the issue of the Alpin, a weekly magazine of the Prothom
Alo, for publishing a cartoon that has 'hurt the people's religious
sentiment.'

'The government has confiscated the issue as the cartoon hurts the
religious sentiment of the people,' said a PID handout.

Authorities of the Prothom Alo, however, apologised and announced
withdrawal of the cartoon titled Naam (name), mentioned the handout.

A delegation led by the Baitul Mukarram mosque's khatib, Obaidul
Haque, called on the law and information adviser, Mainul Hosein, and
demanded cancellation of the declaration of the Prothom Alo and arrest
of its editor, along with others concerned, before this Friday 'for
showing disrespect to Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (pbuh)'.

The cartoon ridiculed the prophet by adding his name (Mohammad)
before an animal, they said.

KS: Nayyar saahab, Kishore Kumar saahab se to aapne bahut saare gaane
gawaaye lekin mujhe yaad hai 1958 mein aapki ek film aayi thi Ragini,
jismein Kishore-ji ne bhi abhinay kiya tha lekin unpar jo
gaana 'picturize' kiya gaya tha woh aapne gawaaya tha Mohd Rafi
saahab se.

OP: yeh isliye kiya ke woh 'classical mood' ka gaana tha, "man moraa
baawra", to woh baDaa chhaTpaTaaya us waqt, apne bhaai ke paas gaya,
bhaai baDaa 'producer' tha us waqt. Ashok Kumar saahab, woh insaaf
pasand aadmi the, kehne lage ki 'bhai yeh 'music director' ki baat
hai, main usmein kuchh naheen bol saktaa, tum Nayyar saahab se baat
karo'.
hamne bolaa ki yeh to Mohd Rafi gaayegaa yaa doosra gaayega

A super solo (non-film) By Munawar Sultana ,the singer

Author:
Date: Sep 26, 2007 21:42

Not many know of this Non film gazal by MS. Whenmy 2 friends from
Lahore visited my place at dombivli on 28th last, I played infront of
them this gazal by MS:

Wafa ka sila, begumaani, badi meherbaani... by Munawar Sultana

M: Pt.Amarnath
L: Dr. Sohail 'Sahir'
Orchestra Arranger: Sebastian

Both of them were 'spell-bound; merely with her rendition totally on
the lower scale , brilliantly aided by Sebastian;s orchestra. The
orchestration resembles a western sryle and well pinctuated.
