I'm one of Pritam's biggest fans but I also make it a point to note
his copying ways when it occurs. And, just when I thought that his
soundtrack of 'Metro' (I had given it a glowing 200 word review,
incidentally!) had only marginal influences, here comes a complete
shocker. One of the songs is a blatant, note-to-note lift of a Korean
track.

Hi all,
I wonder what is it with people that they get hot under the collar with
anything they feel hurt their sentiments.
News is that some Dalit groups in India are apparently upset with some
lyrics used in this unrealeased, much awaited Madhuri Dixit/Yashraj film
Aaja Nachle.
I do not exactly know what part of the lyrics got the goat of the dalits.
More news awaited.
Btw, I remember when RDB was composing Hare Ram Hare Krishna's dum maaro
dum, Dev Anand was apprehensive that such lyrics associated with Hindu gods
might trigger protests but RDB boosted his confidence.
One can say Choli ke pichhe kya hai from Khalnayak generated much
controversy since the lyrics alluded to women's anatomy.
I heard that another early 80's song, I think the actor was Shammi Kapoor
film with the song Saat saheliyan khadi khadi also was subject to
controversy.
Does anyone here can recall other such controversial lyrics affecting--
targetting any specific group, religion, govt, famous individual?

When the music and singing were first introduced in Hindi cinema in
the early 1930s, where did they mainly draw from: the Indian classical/
traditional/folk music or the courtesans' kothas? I have believed
that the musicians performing on the kothas in those days had
developed their own styles, nuances, and notion that probably came
across a whole lot in the music of Naushad, Khemchandra Prakash, and
Anil Biswas. Did these music directors unconsciously pick up that
type of music in their progressive days, or they systematically
introduced and molded it to give it the filmi touch? Did any music
personality, especially singers and composers, or maybe even the
producers, try to promote the classical, traditional, and folk music
in their films in those early days, or they all preferred the music...
