  MD: Hafiz (or Hafiz Khan)

Author: Jay
Date: Dec 31, 2007 07:00

The above named MD , I guess , started with HUMJOLI ('43) followed by
ZEENAT ('45) and some breezy scores in LAKEEREN; MERA SALAM, WATAN,etc

Singer/Music director KHAN 'MASTANA' had started his career as MUSIC
DIRECTOR as early as WASIAT & other films like VIRGINIA, AKELA, etc

Were these two persons one and the same or different. Khan Mastana's
original name was Hafeez Khan ('Mastana' is only a nickname given to
him by MD; Mirsahib in & from his first rendition in BAHUDUR KISAN
('39)

The reason for posting this info resulted when a retired Prof. friend
of mine (from Ulhasnagar) casually opend up this topic and revealed a
startling info that both those persons were none other than Khan
Mastana !!

I am yet to concur with this info from him pending more info from well
known persaonalities of the tinsel screen.

Satish Uncle - A deeply personal tribute

Author: Ritu
Date: Dec 30, 2007 19:17

Friends,

The RMIM Family grieves for our beloved Satish Kalra. His funeral on
Friday, finally helped me bring a closure to his death. A tribute to
his memory follows. Writing this piece has been a form of catharsis
and probably should have been placed in a personal blog instead of the
newsgroup. But then, after reading the outpouring of tributes on this
forum, I can say with confidence that many other people here on this
newsgroup must have had experiences similar to mine, and would see
something of their own interaction with him in my reminiscences. We
all know that Satish Kalra was an exceptional music lover, but anyone
who has spent even a little time with him will testify that he was
even more exceptional a human being. I pay respects and salute the
spirit that was Satish Kalra.

Regards,
Ritu

Afzalji,

I have been looking for the complete lyrics, along with a translation,
of the ghazal "Para para hua", made famous by Ghulam Ali. Would you
happen to have these? All other information on the ghazal would also
be greatly appreciated. You can either post it here or send it to me
at the personal id I had used for our email correspondence.

Thank you.

  Anuradha Ji is Legend

Author: kkfoods
Date: Dec 30, 2007 12:03

Undoubtedly Anuradha Ji has been the best singer during 85 to 95
decade though Lata has been singing in her full swing. Unfortunately
one wrong decision of singing with only T-series stopped her career as
a bollywood singer. Otherwise if was not equal to Lata ( who got the
facilitiy of working with all great musicians from all part of India
with variety of music) but she was close to Lata and u can feel it few
of her songs. if she were allowed sing without under infulence of Lata
& Asha then Alka, world would have heard third big female singer name
after Noor Jehan and Lata. Even Old musicians Like Shanakar Jaikishan,
SD Burman, Ravi, Ravender Jain, Naushad, OP Nayer, LP, and many other
loved to work with Anuradha Paudwal.

Plenty of records of Begum Akhtar with BCSP

Author: =BCSP=
Date: Dec 28, 2007 06:23

This is an absolute truth. BCSP has plenty of Akhtari Faizabadi 78s in
mint condition in its library. Mostly on MEGAPHONE label, some in
Prussian blue color and some in red label.

Not many people know this. Most of the private BA's gazals have been
composed (the music) by Bheeshma Deb Chatterji.

Come down to BCSP any Sunday and enjoy the enchanting oldies of Begum
Akhtar.

This is the only way.

  Master Nissar-Forgotten Hero

Author: Vikram
Date: Dec 28, 2007 00:19

Master Nissar had a privilege to act in first movie "ALAM ARA".

Unfortunately, he had a poor time in last years of his life and spent
last days in a slum of Kamatipura-Mumbai.

He married twice and had many romances with heroines of silent era.

Anyone knows about their children and their whereabouts.
