Friends,
Last year SwarGanga (a NPO aimed at promoting young and upcoming
artists) did a unique concert of Shri. Pritam Bhattacharjee titled
Bandish Bahar ( http://www.swarganga.org/events/bandishbahar.php).
After the astounding success of this concert, we decided to do a
sequel. Bandish Bahar 2 – Morning Raags is a morning concert of Shri.
Pritam Bhattacharjee’s self composed bandishes (compositions). This
will be one of its kind Indian Classical Music concert featuring a
sensational vocalist of this generation.
Please pass this on to your friends and colleagues who might be
interested in attending and help SwarGanga in making this concert a
huge success.
Tickets will be available for purchase from SwarGanga, Johns Creek GA
and Pandit Jasraj School of Music (PJSMF), Smyrna GA.
More information about the concert can be found at
http://www.swarganga.org/events/bandishbahar2.php
Regards,

Devaki Pandit performed at Chowdiah Memorial, Bengaluru on 14-Aug-08,
as a part of Barkha Ritu music festival. She sung Gaud Malhar, Sur
Malhar, Suha Malhar and a kajri. I've uploaded a few clips from this
concert in youtube. Search for "rmoudgalya" for these and many more.
I've organized my other youtube uploads (clips from over 15 live
concerts) in a blog - http://suswara.blogpost.com.
Stay tuned for uploads from Pt. Shivkumar Sharma who performed after
Devaki Pandit, the same evening.
Rmoudgalya.

Let's take up for discussion today one of the most enjoyable
ragas-BILAHARI,
usually sung at the beginning of the concerts,as a main raga or a
sub-main raga
with elaborate raga alapana,sangathis,neravals,and intricate
swaraprastharas in the pallavis.
It is a janya of 29th mela,"Dheera Shankarabaranam".
It is an audava sampoorna raga with five notes in the arohana
and all seven notes in the avarohana:
Aarohanam: S R 2 G3 P D2 S
Avarohanam: S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
The raga conveys, the emotions of courage, joy and valour.
It is a morning raga.
Sometimes, if the nishadam is missed out in the avarohanam,
consciously or unconsciously,it will end up in mohanam.
While singing the alapana, the prayoga,"GPDSNDP",brings out
the essence or chaya of theraga, and adds
a distinct joyous flavour to the raga.
