Did you guys know that NYOil is Kool Kim from the UMC's? I was super
shocked when I heard that but then once I knew it was pretty obvious
from the voice.

Where'd you find out who he was? I was thinking that I've heard that
voice before, but I wasn't sure. At any rate, like another respondent
said, NY Oil's the truth. Between his work, Domingo's album, and Joell
Ortiz's offering, summer was alright for me.

I read it on Unkut.com, there's a link there to his new video and one
of the comments said it was Kool Kim. After my jaw came off the floor
I realized it was obvious by looking at him and listening again. I
was a huge fan of the UMC's, loved Fruits of Nature and even thought
Unleashed had some great songs. Interesting concept completely
reinventing yourself like that.

Here's the link:

Boring is a word that springs to mind...

You like it because you make yourself like it or you have really boring
taste. (With quest it could easily be both.)

The beats are so boring they make 9th Wonder's career seem like musical
Pro Plus, the concepts in the lyrics are MAD tired, oh he thinks 'wack
rappers' should be lynched... There's something never said before... And
he doesn't even do it in an entertaining way, just tries to throw a bit
of controversy into the mix with the usage of the word 'lynched'.

Honestly, people like yourself quest are as easy, if not easier, to
market to than those who fall for the "he was a dealer now he slangin'
rhymes instead" marketing techinque...

You're a smaller yet still profitable audience, hence Kanye only
partially making a headnod in your direction, but easily as gullible as
those you deride.

I agree that the NYOil album isn't as good as I was hoping but I have
to stop you here. I think the UMC's were an amazing group and
extremely original. They were out before Das EFX and Wu Tang (who
they were somewhat affiliated with with RNS doing production). Fruits
of Nature is a certifiable classic! The beats on there were amazing,
had a really 1950's kind of style that has never really been recreated
(lots of Blue Note samples). And the lyrics were excellent, amazing
stuff for 19 year olds, even though most of the masterful lyricists of
the time were young.
