Hmmm... the villianess in Heinlein's PODKAYNE OF MARS (Mrs. Grew?)
was wholesome and cheery on board the spaceliner. Podkayne was
totally taken in, while her brother Clark was suspicious of anyone who
was wholesome and cheery "all the time".
Not precisely a book for tiny tots, not exactly the "beautiful blonde"
(this was the "comfortable grandmother" image), but at least it
avoided the stereotype.
