There's much to choose from I know, but what are currently your 3 or 4
personal favorite (original only) Bob Dylan written songs and please
say why, for each song named.
I thought this topic had been well discussed, but a rec.music.dylan
archive
search out of curiosity, shows that it surprisingly hasn't at all for
many years
(and when it was, not that well).

Dirge - because I hate Bob Dylan and wish I were dead
Visions of Johanna - because a reporter at a concert once asked me my
favorite song, I thought about it for a second, remembered listening
to that line about it being so hard to get on, and crying for me and
Bob Dylan, who I didn't know at the time, but he is a liar.
I and I - because I hate Bob Dylan and I wish I never met him and his
Jokerman face.

You know something is happening, but you don't know what it is, do you, Mr.
Gilchrist?

I like the long, wordy ones that are too long the best

I like the ones about dogs the best actually. I like them a lot more
than I like dogs, to be honest

Lay Lady Lay
Mozambique
Romance In Durango
One More Cup of Coffee
- The music in all 4 is absolutely gorgeous, not to mention great vocals
(what, Dylan great vocals?), lovely backup vocals, great production,
interesting lyrics/story, gripping mood, etc, etc. Yes, mood. I love
what I call the "gypsy" mood/feeling in the last 2 or 3 songs on my
list, which incidentally, come from the same album - Desire.
The only other Dylan song I really like is "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".
But I wish it had more meat - it's plain too short, missing
something.... maybe a knock on the door.... ;-)
