To be completely fair, if a thread is marked OT, I see no harm in it.
Why not just ignore them, read the musical stuff, and then mark
newsgroup as read?

I don't see it as any big deal frankly.

How sad. And yet I think that is precisely the way many here see this
group, which explains the seriousness with which they take the group's
members and what goes on in rmcr. USENET should be a few minutes of
amusement out of a full and rich day, yet for many it is a part of
their "social life". The tepperpotamus, for example, seems to be
monitoring the group every waking moment. There is rarely a post that
might interest him to which he is not the first to reply. powell
similarly seems to have been left with not much to do in life but post
here. Judging from their pix, both are pasty and corpulent, and that
is obviously why.

So in your opinion this newsgroup is not really about classical
recordings but about anything villiage idiots, lonely city weirdos and
other nutcases wish to discuss as long as they mark their stuff OT?
In that case I have to disaggree with you. This is a not a club for
political fanatics or a group therapy session for the socially
handicapped, but a usenet group and people should stick to its topic.
Besides, usenet has plenty of newsgroups where discussing politics is
on topic, just like there are groups for many other topics, probably
more than you and I can imagine.

What, may I ask, exempts you from this rule of posting on topic? If
you find posts marked "OT" so objectionable, why do you open them?
Because you can't stand the idea that others might find them valuable
or enjoyable? Why don't you get a newsreader to filter "OT" out? Too
difficult for you?
