Looking for suggestions for this instrument, other than the standard
concertos, as far as pieces and recordings go.
And yes, I have Bach's works for the instrument, and Beethovens cello
sonatas, but surely this wonderfully expressive instrument is deserving
of much more.
What are your favourite solo, or almost solo, pieces and recordings for
cello. Thanks in advance.
PS: I have heard YoYo's Bach and it horrifies me. Not a suggestion of a
bar line in sight, but that is just personal taste.

There are quite a few cello sonatas. You know, Beethoven, Brahms. But also
Chopin, Rachmaninow, Miaskowsky, Borodin, Prokofiev, Rubinstein.
(the mentioned Russians were issued in a 4 CD Praga set)

Does Svendsen's cello concerto count as "standard". It's very rarely
performed, so if you're not familiar with it, you might want to give
it a whirl. It's only 17 - 18 minutes long, but a very noble and
tuneful piece.

Hi,

Which recording of these suites would you recommend? I, too, like playing
with minimal agogics (let's say, like Glenn Gould on the cello)
Thanks and Ciao
A.
