The Pittsburgh Symphony played a simply magnificent Ein Heldenleben tonight
led by its music director designate, Manfred Honeck. It was recorded by
Japanese label, Exton, who hopefully also will release the same evening's
performance of Verdi's Overture to "La forza del destino" in a five-channel
surround sound, SACD format.
You will want this disc - it was magical!

Obama Leads in Superdelegates for First Time
By JOHN M. BRODER
Published: May 10, 2008
The trump card Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton held in her faltering
bid for president — her support among the superdelegates who can
control the fate of the Democratic nomination — began slipping from
her grasp on Friday as Senator Barack Obama moved into the lead on
this front, with uncommitted delegates declaring their allegiance to
him as others deserted her.
Mrs. Clinton publicly vowed to fight on for the nomination while
campaigning on Friday in Oregon. But a new, more conciliatory tone
crept into her stump speeches, as she shied away from the more
spirited attacks on Mr. Obama that characterized her recent primary
battles, instead engaging him more gently on the issues while aiming
her fire on Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican
nominee.

Haydn Sym # 86
Ernest Ansermet
SRO
1962 Victoria Hall
Produced by Bremner
Engineered by Roy Wallace
You conduct Haydn a lot, don't you?
Oh yes, very much. We are coming back to Haydn. I spoke very
often with Furtwangler about that. He told me, 'You know, to my
mind, Haydn is more of a symphonic composer than Mozart. The sense
of symphony is to be found in Haydn.' That is also my point of view
today. That is why, as the 'London' symphonies by Haydn were all
recorded by Sir Thomas Beecham, I recorded the 'Paris' symphonies
which came before and are absolutely marvellous.
Interpretatively, they are not as difficult though, are they, as, say,
the last three
great Moz:art symphonies ?

Hello all –
There is a recent discussion thread on Josef Krips and his
performances of Bruckner symphonies. In particular, the Krips 1961
live performance of the Eighth with the New York Philharmonic was of
interest to several members. Inquiries were made regarding the
performance in general, but also which edition Krips performed and if
the edition was cut.
A few years ago, Don Tait made me a digital copy of his open reel
tapes of this performance. The initial recording was a collaborative
effort between a young Don and his good friend Fred Heft over 45 years
ago. Don recorded the first 3 movements on his equipment, Fred the
last movement and ending commentaries on his deck and tuner. At the
time, both Fred and Don’s tape capabilities were limited to 45 minutes
duration.

NY Phil
1962
Phil Hall
Produced by ?
Engineered by ?
Digial Mastering by Helen Keller, Marleee Matlin and R.T.A. Jones
This is the best that I can do with a FLAC that someone sent me. It
was recorded in Phil Hall so it doesn't have the stench of The
Manhattan Centre or the St. George Hotel. Is that a by the hour hotel?
It certainly ain't a concert hall

NB: There is a rather sophisticated phisher out there mascarading as
Pay Pal. Pay Pal advises me they do NOT contact their account holders
by email to request personal info so if you receive such a "Pay Pal"
email, it's bogus.Forward it to Pay Pal's "spoof" address. Pfisher
likes to say your " account access limited", which can be a real Pay
Pal action at times, but not by email.
