Hello all,

Continuing my series of early string quartet recordings, here's the
legendary Flonzaley String Quartet (Adolfo Betti and Alfred Pochon,
violins; Nicholas Moldavan, viola; Iwan d'Archambeau, cello) in the...

  Album number --> CD. Possible?

Author: curvature
Date: May 6, 2008 17:25

I have looked for a charter, FAQ, or archives of this group, but I
can't find
one. (Perhaps this is a limitation of access from Google land.)

Can someone please point me in the right direction? I would guess
that mine is a very common question.

I have a classical LP recording and I want to find the same
performance
on a CD. Is there a search engine someplace for this, or perhaps some
lists of Classical CDs that I can scan?

I have the album, which means I have title, composer, conductor,
date, piece titles, and what appears to be a unique "record number".
If I have this info, can I find a CD that contains the same recording?

Since most classical labels have extensively "re-issued"
their catalogs, I'm hoping the CD exists somewhere, and that after I
know the CD info, I can find it.

My particular item:

Are you tired of rapishare's hour wait

Author: ansermetniac

This worked for me when Sax On The Web banned my IP address. They
think it is okay for their darling to trash the most influential sax
player in the last 35 years to discredit me and build up the
reputation of their darling, a guy who got caught counterfeiting me. I
do not. I told them so

Nevertheless, will it work with rapidshare? Let us know if you have
success

This is quite interesting, get it from a forum, and credits go to
Mojojojojo. Just follow these simple steps below, to get a new IP
address even you have a static/fixed IP!

This trick is very useful for those who cannot use this method because
the have static IP address.

To start off, you need a direct connection to your modem and
computer. If you have a router, disconnect it and directly hook up
your modem to your computer.

1. Open up the command prompt by pressing Start->Run and typing in
cmd

  OT Gregory Peck's Mixup

Do you remember the end of The Boys From Brazil after Peck shoots and
fights with Olivier and then sits on the couch and tries to convince
the cloned Hitler boy that he is the good guy and Olivier is the bad
guy? Before the dogs finish him?

He should have played Atticus Finch just like that and Mengele like he
played Atticus Finch

What Muti and some CSO players say

Author: Rugby
Date: May 6, 2008 15:29

From the NYT site today:

(snip)

“From my years in Philadelphia I know exactly what I’m expected to do
as music director of an American orchestra,” said Mr. Muti, 66, who
was music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1980 to 1992.
The job, he said, was not just to make good music in the concert hall
“but to serve the community.” He cited his work performing in trouble
spots around the world, including the Balkans, Lebanon and Armenia,
and giving concerts in places like a prison in Italy.

Mr. Muti called the Chicago Symphony “a perfect machine,” with the
versatility to play huge works like Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3 and
Scriabin’s “Poem of Ecstasy” or to display the refined delicacy needed
for small-scale Schubert.

He remained steadfastly unattached after resigning as music director
of the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan in 2005 in an operatic kerfuffle.
Orchestra musicians and other workers at the theater had turned
against him in an internal political wrangle.

As Pianist and Mentor, Mitsuko Uchida Balances Acclaim and Assists
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/arts/music/04oest.html
8.5.4

By JAMES R. OESTREICH

THE 59-year-old pianist Mitsuko Uchida -- born near Tokyo, trained
in Vienna and long resident in London -- is, in more ways than one,
a musician's musician. Her performances and Philips recordings of
Classical and Romantic standards -- especially works by Mozart,
Beethoven and Schubert -- have consistently fed a reputation for
elegant and profound musicianship.

Those qualities have carried into later repertories as well, in
performances of Schoenberg, Debussy, Bartok, Messiaen and beyond.
And they will undoubtedly shine through Ms. Uchida's Carnegie Hall
recital on Friday night, a typically meaty serving of Bach, Schubert
and Schumann generously laced with works by the contemporary
Hungarian Gyorgy Kurtag.

  Upload: Mitropoulos Tchaikovsky "Little Russian"

Here is more Mitropoulos - Tchaikovsky's Symphony #2 "Little Russian"
as performed by the Minneapolis Symphony, March 10/11 1946 in Northrup
Auditorium.

Be patient - the first 2 movements are a bit laid back but the scherzo
really catches fire and the finale really brings it all home.

Dubbed from a Nickson Records CD. I find no web reference to Nickson,
nor is any copyright claimed on the CD or liner. The transfer is very
good, to my ears.
