  Music on DVDs?

Author: David Kaiser
Date: May 17, 2008 14:17

I wanted to experiment with burning some digital music onto DVDs thanks
to their capacity, but it seems neither Deep Burner nor Windows Media Player
will recognize a DVD when you put it into your burner. Can anyone give me
some advice? Thanks.

The Beatles UK Singles Part 1

mono flacs

From the superior mono mixes(not foldovers. The stereo mixes were
afterthoughts done without the approval of the Beatles). Transferred
from original Parlophone 45rpm vinyl singles by Dr. Ebbetts Sound
Systems.Rescued from the depths of audiofoolishness by Engineer
Abbedd,June 2007. Since they were transferred from 45s you are sure to
get the mix that made them famous.
Most of these did not appear on LPS until compilation hits collections
were released

Track 15 is the greatest record of the Rock Era. LISTEN TO THOSE
GUITARS. John starts it off with his solid Rickenbacker distorting.
George, with his hollow body Gretsch, with the treble turned all the
way up, takes over the riff and John switches to rhythm guitar. After
George's short solo, they repeat this again. Paul plays a simple but
effective bass line on his Hoffner. Ringo plays much of this song on
the center of the ride cymbal. In my masterings only, can you hear
Ringo's attacks and how fine a Musician he was,

Schumann - The Pilgrimage of the Rose - Christoph Spering et al.

Author: Roland van Gaalen
Date: May 17, 2008 14:08

The Pilgrimage of the Rose is in my opinion another underrated choral
composition by Robert Schumann.

And I cannot imagine a performance better than this one by Christoph
Spering's orchestra and chorus, which brilliantly succeeds in bringing out
the composition's
otherwordly refinement.

Schumann wrote this gorgeous piece in 1851, presumably several years before
he went mad and started hearing angelic music in his dreams.

Nevertheless, the concluding Choir of Angels ("Sei uns gegruesst, liebliche
Rose") is now on my list of the best endings of anything ever written.

I think it is by itself sufficient justification for acquiring this
wonderful recording which has my highest recommendation.

caveat on Borders (and other bookseller) discounts

Author: William Sommerwerck
Date: May 17, 2008 14:08

I went into the Redmond Town Center's Borders this morning looking for three
books I wanted at the 40%%-off price. They let me buy them all at once,
rather than have to leave and come back, which was nice. *

Anyhow, the young lady at the checkout counter said "I need to see your club
card. You can't get the discount without it." I don't know whether I had it
with me, but she checked my e-mail address in their national database and
confirmed I was a member.

I mention this because I 'd forgotten that the coupon couldn't be used by
"just anyone" . It's nice that people post discount coupons here, but
at least some of them can't be used unless you belong to "the inner circle".

* If you're wondering... "War and Peace" (Pevear translation); the Disney
biography by Neal Gabler; "Quantum Field Theory in a Nutshell" by A. Zee.

He also did the two Weill Symphonies in 1967 for EMI with the BBC Symphony,
originally on a mid-priced "Matrix" 65869 (with Busoni and Schoenberg by
Frederik Prausnitz/New Philharmonia). Currently available as an ArkivMusic
reissue ("includes liner notes"). Details at

Very good from my distant recollection, not that recordings of these are
thick on the ground.

OT Let us Pray for Teddy Kennedy

Author: ansermetniac

Teddy Kennedy has suffered two seizures. One at his home and one on
the helicopter taking him to the hospital

It is indeed a sad comment on the state of the congress when Teddy
Kennedy represents the sole voice of ethics in that establishment
