OK I waited all day for David Schramm to respond. I hate to see
someone suffer the pain of not knowing. David claims to have found a
string that can be tuned up to A on the first string. I'm assuming
your guitar is a 650mm? While I have no doubt one can find such a
string, I doubt it will satisfy your desire as far as power and
sustain, beyond a passing fancy. The 8 strings ( so called Brahms
guitars) have a shoeter scale around 615mm or so. This allows one to
use a thicker first string more in line with what one is accustomed to
with a normal first string.
You can contact Chris Hendricksen at Baston catlines for more info.
and to order a thinner 1st string.
