  OT: Ainadamar by Golijov

http://www.osvaldogolijov.com/wd7s.htm

Last night, I was privileged to go the symphony and see Ainadamar by
Osvaldo Golijov. It is an opera, but here in Phoenix, we just got to
hear the music for the most part.

When getting these tickets, I was interested because of the subject
matter (Facist Spain, Lorca) and instrumentation (orchestra +
electronica + flamenco guitars). I would now add that checking out
this composer will become a priority.

The guitarists were Adam del Monte, an Anglo flamenco guitarist, and
some unnamed other fellow. They were used for a lot of strumming on
bulerias-type rhythms, some atmospheric flamenco noodling around, and
one piece featuring the guitars in a concerto-like fashion. Both guys
got a great flamenco sound and used mics... the guitarists, singers,
and electronic touches came through the PA. There was a strange
tweeter-looking silver thing poised behind them on a stand, but I
don't know if it was a monitor or something else entirely.

Somewhat OT: Great late vid from Sabicas

Apparently shortly before his death. He certainly kept his marvelous
skill till the very end. The rhythmic vitality is such a part of
Sabicas, or so it seems to me.
