For many years I was gullible to believe that the Beatles came from nowhere
and were instant stars and everyone liked them, but that is not quite the
case.
as a Beatles fan who has done research for many years I have discovered that
there has been some sort of rewriting of history.
Recently I sat down with my older sister, who was a young teen back at the
time the Beatles first came to America and here is how she recalls it:
"I heard of the Beatles long before Ed Sullivan and had a few of their 45's.
not everyone liked them at first, but I was a fan. many thought I wanna
hold your hand was their first American hit, but it was like their fifth or
sixth as I recall and it was at least a year and a half maybe two years
later after I bought my first beatles record. the greasers were into doo-wop
stuff like Franki Valli and didn't like them at first. the surfers liked the
Beach boys and Jan and Dean, but by the time they appeared on Ed Sullivan
two years after I bought my first beatles record these same people, who had
criticized this English band from Liverpool had changed their opinions about
them considerably and now were fans"
