As a heads-up, please note that Hurricane Ike is headed for Houston TX,
where r.m.b.m.'s servers are located. Due to power outages and the like,
the newsgroup may (or may not) be unavailable for the next several days
or more, depending on the severity of the storm. If you post something
and it doesn't show up, please consider the circumstances. We'll post a
follow-up to note when things are okay again.
Thanks in advance for your patience.

By now most everyone knows about the famous George Martin edit: at basically
the one minute mark he joined the slowed and fast versions of the two
Field's takes into the one that was released.
As it turns out, though, according to Recording The Beatles, there were TWO
edits there, actually three separate pieces of tape...
On the first :55 seconds of the release, version 1 (take 7) is used, and it
goes up to the point: "...it doesn't matter much to me...". On the original
take 7 John then goes into another verse. But to make the two versions edit
join correctly they had to splice in: "Let me take you down 'cos I'm..."
from a *different* part of the take 7 version (now at :55-:58). THEN the
famous edit at :59 on the words "...going to..." and the joining of the
second, orchestrated version of the song.
Just another of those little Beatle nuggets.

Hoax E-Mails Attack Beatles Fans
According to an expert in computer forensics at UAB (University of
Alabama at Birmingham), dangerous scam e-mails are targeting fans of
Beatles. Gary Warner, who operates UAB's Spam Data Mine, said that at
least 36%% of e-mails came in on August 19, 2008 morning led to malware-
infected sites, as reported by what goes on on August 20, 2008.
The expert also said that one in every 3 spam e-mails linked to a
malicious site. He further warned that the e-mails contain the subject
head - "The Beatles - Back Together Again."
Furthermore, this particular e-mail scam is dangerous as it attempts to
entice users into opening a bogus link, which subsequently installs
malware on their PCs. Some other hoax subject heads include - "You've
received a greeting card" and "Weekly Top News."
Warner further said that most of the anti-virus solutions failed to block
the malicious code used in the attack. According to the tests conducted
by his team, only 4 of the total 36 anti-virus solutions featured in the
Virus Total malware testing facility could detect the code.

The Other Me
by Paul McCartney
I Know I Was A Crazy Fool
For Treating You The Way I Did
But Something Took Hold Of Me
And I Acted Like A Dustbin Lid
I Didn't Give Second Though
To What The Consequence Might Be
I Really Wouldn't Be Surprised
If You Were Trying To Find Another Me
"Dustbin lid" is London Cockney rhyming slang for a child (kid).

I was trying to remember how long the gap was between "Peppers" and
"The White" tonight and looked it up....
"Tour" release date is November 67, the "White" album listed as
November 68.
My head is fuzzy on this....so what did we as Beatles have in that
year between albums? Would it have been just the "Hey Jude" single?
I could look all of this up of course but am extremely lazy tonight
and hoping for a quick fix to the problem;)
Thanks all

I'm reading uber-engineer/producer/soundman Phil Ramone's book from last
year ("Making Records...The Scenes Behind The Music") which is an
interesting and breezy travelogue through his career, and this 'what if...?'
scenario jumped out at me:
==
"One of the last events I worked on in the Kennedy White House was held
October 1, 1963 - a performance by the Joffrey Ballet.
Not long after, a White House secretary who helped coordinate musical events
asked my opinion on something. "We've been reading about this new group
from England that American teens are going crazy over. If it can be
arranged, would you be interested in helping to produce a White House
concert by the Beatles?
Imagine the possibilties..."

ohnotheydidnt: 20 Album Covers Recreated in LEGO#cutid1
There are some amusing and not badly done Lego recreations of Beatle album
covers, for those into Legos. :)
