comicsfan@hotmail.com wrote:

> Paul calls it "daughter of 'Blackbird'" because the original song is
> about a black woman singing to be free, and this one is of a singer
> who's tired of singing about life. It's the flipside of the same coin
> a generation later.

Wow! It's amazing how two people can listen to the same set of lyrics
and read the same quotes and come away with two completely different
perspectives on the same song.

I see "Jenny Wren" as a comment on the state of the world (and maybe a
specific country), and how sad a condition we've all come to; but
that there's hope for the world if we just stop and take a breath.

I also understood Paul to say that there was a certain classical guitar
piece he and George Harrison used to play around with, just to see if
they could master it. He said "Blackbird" came out of that piece, and
so did "Jenny Wren", and that's why he calls "Jenny Wren" the sister of
"Blackbird".

But not only are they related musically. How could any McCartney song
with the lyric: "When this broken world, mends its foolish ways" NOT be
considered related to "Blackbird"?

-Edvado
