Wow! It's amazing how two people can listen to the same set of lyrics
and read the same quotes and come away with two completely different
perspectives on the same song.

I see "Jenny Wren" as a comment on the state of the world (and maybe a
specific country), and how sad a condition we've all come to; but
that there's hope for the world if we just stop and take a breath.

I also understood Paul to say that there was a certain classical guitar
piece he and George Harrison used to play around with, just to see if
they could master it. He said "Blackbird" came out of that piece, and
so did "Jenny Wren", and that's why he calls "Jenny Wren" the sister of
"Blackbird".

But not only are they related musically. How could any McCartney song
with the lyric: "When this broken world, mends its foolish ways" NOT be
considered related to "Blackbird"?

Wonderful. That never occurred to me, but...I can see why our dear Sir
Paul responded to it.
>As for Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 - Fantastic album throughout.
>Includes a terrific cover of Stevie Wonder's They Won't Go When I Go.
I have been known to listen to that track for days on end, frankly. I
heard there's a Listen Without Prejudice Volume 2, which Mr. Michael
has declined to release...! :(

  Jenny Wren...

I don't care if people say it's "son of Blackbird", it's a great song in
itself. None of these 20-something singer-songwriters could write it.

  NEW POLL.... melody or lyrics?

Author: dennis.stinziano

I love Macca.... voice as pure as love... I always preferred Paul to John
because I love a great melody over a great lyric. That's just me. What about
you? Melody or lyrics?
