This is the guy who hates to fly, yes?
But, as he says in that article, it'll be a 'no pressure' race for
him, and give him some familiarity of the bike, tyres and team before
the two US rounds, so I think it's a luckt break.
I can't see Capirex doing another season after this one, so Ben could
probably get comfy in that seat.

Ah, the inevitable Euro line. Should I ask, "this is the guy who likes
to play the piano, yes?" every time Toseland is mentioned?

Yeah, he claims now that he's "over" it...

Since a reluctance to fly would seriously impact his ability to get to the races,
it is a valid point to make. He can take a boat between Donington and Assen, but
Sepang to Valencia might be a bit harder to pull off. Toseland's piano playing has no
affect on his racing or transportation.

Wrong, Howard, a reluctance to fly wouldn't impact anything, but a
refusal to fly would. Since Spies has already gone to Sepang and
Valencia to test, has been actively seeking a MotoGP ride and is excited
about going to Donington, I think we can safely put that one to bed, right?

But it could, as much as flying with Spies. Look at Rog Hayden and Troy
Bayliss - if Toseland had a close call with his hands at some point he
might just decide it's not worth the risk.

The phrase "a reluctance to fly" is a nice way of saying "so-and-so is afraid to
fly and might have a hard time getting to the races," if it was about someone in this
position.

What?!?!?!?!?!?!
I was just checking, in response to the 'leaving on a jet plane' line
from Tom, that Spies was indeed the US rider who, I vaguely recalled
reading on here, didn't like flying.

Cheers. AFAIK most phobics get over their phobia with exposure, and
he's going to get lots of that. Hope it works out for him.
