I try to avoid as much "useless" rides/commutations as possible (that
necessarily includes my car) and go by bicycle as often as possible and
save "quality fuel" for dirtbiking during the week-ends. I favour
local/nearby tracks over those at a long distance. I chose a rather small
car and put the bike on a trailer rather than dragging around the useless
weight of a gas guzzling van/pickup 90%% of the time.

I already start(ed) cutting back but would prefer to call it
prioritization. BTW, the issue with the gas prices is a much more serious
one here in Germany. Currently, we're at EUR 3.79 per gal of unleaded
premium fuel, which is about 6USD/gal. My vehicle has a consumption of
about 8l/100km which aequivalents 2.11Gal/62.1mls, about 30mls/gal.

today's prices for US gallon in US dollars, calculated with today's
exchange rate:
Gasoline, regular: $6.1
Gasoline, premium: $6.4
Alcohol, ethanol from cane sugar: $3.8
Diesel, low sulphur: $4.5
and we still ride. Bikes doesn't take much fuel anyway and honestly,
why do you need a V6 or bigger when a simple 4 cyl. compact can haul
you, two friends, your gear, your friends gear and three bikes on a
trailer?

there is still the option of running the engine on CNG, but I don't
take that as an option for *me*. It is even cheaper than burning
ethanol. I really don't like the idea of hauling a gas cylinder on my
trunk all the times...

Well. Must have been a slight problem with all those unit conversions.
1.5EUR per litre of premium pump gas today. 8.5$/gal. Oh well.

THX for reminding. I'm getting 38 tomorrow, please apologize cerebral
deficits that might come along with that age.

Why should you?

Yep. Exactly. Offroad riding that is, in my case.

*LOL* Well, the Nazi-argument is still the strongest one of all. I usually
don't participate in such discussions, because they bore me to hell and
there really are bigger, more interesting topics than this one.

Hmmm. I don't see myself in here - my point of view is pretty pragmatic. I
concentrate on things with more benefit instead of wasting money for things
I could live without. Others may have other focuses - I'm not on a crusade
here and sure do I know that there are inevitable sources of environmental
pollution. But does that mean that one shouldn't ponder a little about how
to save some bucks and probably waste a little less resources at the same
time? NB: I'm not talking about self-mortification or moving into a
cloister etc.

Brain had a brilliant idea of what to do with one that I have been enamored
of since he mentioned it. Should I get a few spare heartbeats before I die,
I'd like to do that. It does involved some level of modification.

"When it hits a dollar a gallon there will be PLENTY of gas..."
Isn't it still cheaper than it was Way Back When when inflation is taken
into account? Or is it?
