Executive Vice President Campaign statement

Mark T. Smith
Shawnee, Kansas

My name is Mark Smith and I'm running for the office of AMA Executive Vice
President. I am currently the AMA District 9 VP, holding this position for
the last three years. I have been active in model aviation most of my life
and held numerous leadership positions in clubs through the U.S. I am
asking for your support because I believe I have the broad background needed
to meet and exceed our President's expectations as his Vice President. The
past three years have been extremely busy and rewarding as depicted by the
following milestones:

Excellent glue for repairing cracked wings (and general foam use)

Author: Peter Olcott
Date: Aug 14, 2008 19:05

I did some testing with wooden dowels and Styrofoam coffee
cups and the winner is LOCTITE Power Grab FOAMBOARD
CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE. This costs about $5.50 at Lowes for a
10.1 ounce tube designed for the small caulk guns. It has a
resealable cap.

(1) The bond is much stronger than any other adhesive
tested, gently pulling the 1/4 inch wooden towel glued to
the top of the coffee cups at its best leverage angle
always ripped the cup, the bond never broke.

(2) It was much lighter than any of the other glues, it has
a consistency of foam itself, it is about as heavy as
shaving foam.

(3) It is amazingly easy to work with, I only needed a
single piece of 3/4 inch tape to clamp down the one spot
most needing to be clamped, the glue itself holds the pieces
firmly together. A wet paper dowel can easily remove every
trace of excess.

(4) It seems to wash off with water, at least before it
dries.

FAA Issues Flight Restrictions for Denver, CO
by Dave Mathewson 8:19 AM

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued Notice to Airman
(NOTAM) involving a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for the Denver,
CO area during the Democratic National Convention beginning on August
25, 2008 and ending on August 28, 2008. The TFR prohibits most aero
operations, including model aircraft and model rocketry between 2p and
11p MDT on August 25th, 26th, and 27, and from 4p to 11p MDT on August
28th. You can view the online version of the TFR by visiting

  Repairing a Super Tigre 75

I have an Italian ST 75 that I just love and it got clobbered the
other day. The carb and muffler were basically destroyed but the
crankcase and all the internals escaped miraculously. I know I can't
get Italian parts and I was wondering what I could expect by buying a
new carb and muffler set up and using them on the Italian crankcase.
Are the Chinese parts compatible with the Italian stuff? I hate to
give up this engine as its performed so perfectly for me.
