This would be a good idea if the elbow were actually "the control
point." However, it ignores that considerable knife control comes via the
wrist hand and fingers as well.
Here's an experiment to try. Find a training partner who knows
something about knives. Use a large stick of sidewalk chalk as a "knife."
Offer them 10 bucks (or the equivalent in local currency) for every chalk
mark they can leave on you. Then try your "control the elbow" bit.
