While trying to work out an impossible passing pattern that I was
*certain* I had been juggling the night before I made a basic causal
diagram editor:
http://files.myopera.com/orinoco/svg/causaldiagrams.svg
To use just click on a hand (which will turn red) then click on another
node to add a throw/pass.
You can click on the line to remove it, or click clear all lines to start
from scratch.
The Add/Remove Juggler/Beat links do exactly that.
The Delay links to the left of each line of nodes enables you to cycle
through a delay of 0, 0.5 & 1.
It works in Opera, Firefox & IE+ASV (apart from removing beats doesn't
seem to work).
Just thought someone else might find it useful for something.

Casual diagrams can have arrows going back one beat, but not two.
Which types of patterns do you mean, that don't work with siteswap?
A library would be great. As would rhythm changes and other goodies. A
nice program none the less.

Actually, they can go back two counts -- that represents an empty
hand. Going back one count represents a handacross.
The SVG causal diagram editor looks interesting.
One thing it can't seem to do is generate hand throw sequences for a
given juggler other than R L R L R L. So it can't diagram Jim's
3-Count, for example.
It also apparently can't do delays other than 1/2 count (or 1 count),
so that eliminates some other patterns. (Oh, and it seems like the
arrows should move with the letters when you change the delay!
Otherwise you can get arrow coming from or going to spaces between
R's and L's.)
For me, Add Beat and Remove Beat don't work. I assume those are
supposed to be used to make longer or shorter diagrams.

Well, a little missinformation stirs more conversation. I was trying to
say that the editor was written with casual diagrams in mind, not ladder
diagrams, though it works for both.

I like the circles. If they were color coded, you wouldn't even need the
letters. In addition, it'd be nice to see a circular editor, where the
diagram curves back onto itself, to visualize periodic patterns.

Actually, I was using Safari under MacOSX 10.4.9. Add and remove beat
did nothing at all. I see now that add beat and remove beat work fine
with Firefox under Linux. I'll try Firefox on the Mac.

Add and remove beat (and the othrr buttons) work fine with Firefox
2.0.0.6 under MacOSX 10.4.9.
Another useful feature would be the ability to save a diagram to a
file (other than with a screenshot) and then to be able to load it
back from the file.
