Among other changes, Wal-Mart will be "Creating a record and alert
system to record when a gun sold at Wal-Mart is later used in a crime.
If the purchaser of that gun later tries to buy another gun at Wal-Mart,
the system would alert the sales clerk of the prior buy and could refuse
to make the sale."
Interesting. If a prior purchasor's gun was used in a crime, the
purchasor is punished, even if he wasn't guilty of anything.
From reading the article I'd guess Wal-Mart wants to open in NYC and
this is the price to do so.

He's blocked,not "punished".
BTW,How is Wal-Mart supposed to know when a gun sold by them HAS been "used
in a crime"? Are the police or courts going to feed them the data?

I'm surprised Wal Mart is still selling firearms. Here in California,
most Wal Marts stopped carrying firearms years ago, and now very few
stock any ammo.

Then you and I differ on the meaning of "punished", a minor point. To
me , the denial of one's constitutional right without due process is
punishment.

# Wal-Mart sells shotguns and rifles,NO handguns.
# The likelihood of their guns being used in crimes is low.

They do in Alaska.
# Besides, how many people buy their guns at Wal-Mart?
# What kind of service can they offer?
#
The first sentence of the article reads: "Wal-Mart, the nation's largest
seller of firearms...", so apparently someone is buying guns from Wal-Mart.
This reminds me of that crap under the Clintons when Smith & Wesson and
Ruger sold us out in order to appease the government. I still refuse to
buy S&W or Ruger. My one man boycott continues.

Frank,
There is "reason" behind their "madness"! Allegedly, years ago a man
came into the store, bought a weapon and some bullets and proceeded to
another department where he killed his wife who was employed there!
Now, you cannot buy both at one time. If you buy a weapon *a manager*
must escort you out of the store with that *empty* weapon.
Several years ago I purchased a rifle and the same thing happened. I
didn't whisper, but spoke softly as we walked out, telling her that it
really didn't seem necessary as I was packing two loaded pistols at the
time! She did not comment.

California does NOT the United States make...
99%% of this country is NOT California....
And thats the Californian Problem...
They think because it's that way there, it's that way (or should be)
everywhere

Who does what in Alaska? No hand guns in the Ketchikan Wal-Mart. Use
rifles and shotguns for crimes in Alaska?

There's so many Wal-Marts in the US that they only have to sell a few in
each store.
