Any "owners" comments on whether there is a seventy dollar difference
between these in a short barrel "security" pump? I have heard good
reports on the Mossberg and hate to pay the additional 70.00 without
reason.
Intended use is loaded under the backseat of my truck until needed.
Thanks in advance.
Kenneth

Sweet Jebus no! Not another Remington-Mossberg thread!
# Intended use is loaded under the backseat of my truck until needed.
Short answer: They're both good.
870s are probably a bit sturdier (the receivers are known to stand up better
to heavy use) and better fitted. They also have a big edge in accessories
at the moment, which is something of a reversal from a few years ago when
Mossbergs were all the rage.
FWIW, I got a big box 500 for ducks, mainly because I wanted something that
could go over the side of the boat without breaking my heart. Overall, I've
no complaints as regards quality or reliability apart from the crapomatic
plastic safety button which is readily, if not exactly easily, replaceable
(for reasons nobody fully understands, it's attached with a security screw).

Well, I've never had any problems with either one of my mossbergs... but
I don't have one of what you are planning to purchase.
Neither one has ever jammed or misfired. I shot skeet for practice with
the 20 gauge before I bought the larger 12 gauge. My skeet scores
improved and it, too, has never caused me any problems with hundreds of
rounds thru it without cleaning.
I've only recently been shown how to take apart a pump for cleaning, so
I'll fix that now.

Peace! Om

i dont think theres enough difference for that purpose. but
for hunting shotguns, remington is hands down better handling and easy
aiming. i have both ,remington is really better made.

The Mossberg is more left hand friendly re. the safety. If you can,
try to find one with interchangable chokes. My Mossy 500 with the 18"
full cylinder choke barrel spread the pattern way too much, it would
not keep all 9 pellets on a man sized target at 25 yards. Now I have a
new barrel on it and it works great with full and Xtra full chokes.

Its your call, but the remingtons are better quality than the mossbergs.
You always get what you pay for.
