This part of the FAQ deals with advanced issues that delve into parts
of the game that have changed, or which are complex. For beginners,
this section gives the answers to some difficult questions; for players
with more experience, the discussion should provide skills that will
help solve most Magic problems. For this part of the FAQ especially,
it's worth having the Comprehensive Rulebook available while reading.

------------------------------

Subject: 3.01: Templating and identification

Magic card text uses specific templates to indicate that a particular
type of effect is intended. Some of the templates refer to the use
of particular words, some of the templates are simply idiomatic use
of English that Magic has adopted.

If you gain Threshold *during* the resolution of Kirtar's Wrath, does
that change the outcome of the Wrath?

  Basic Question

Author: Risser
Date: Mar 25, 2008 10:01

A quick question, that's probably been answered many times already,
but I couldn't find anything:
If I have a creature with Changeling and someone plays a Humility,
does it lose Changeling? Or is that protected as a characteristic-
setting ability?

Do they even have those any more? It's been a while since I really
paid attention, alas.

  Some basic questions

Hi Guys,

Me and my brother have just started playing MTG, it's a great game.
I have a few questions regarding some cards/instances of the game.

1) My brother has some instants that say tap target creature. If the
creature has an ability and it costs "tap" to play, will that ability
be activated if he uses the instant on that particular creature?
( Could a reasoning be provided or what parts of the rule are in play
here?, I tried to explain to my brother that you can't "double tap" a
card since he was forcing me to tap and I didn't want to play it's
ability.)

2) I have a card that says target opponent discards 4 cards from his
hand. If my opponent only has 3, does he discard all his cards or am I
unable to play this card?

3)My brother has Spellstutter Sprite.
Now, if my brother is not counter targetting any spell, can he still
play that card since he cannot target a spell?

Thank you for your time.
Eric
