  VEKN Tournament Rules 2009? (LSJ/Oscar)

Author: extrala
Date: Dec 26, 2008 10:24

Since the end of 2008 is less than week away, I would like to know if
there are any changes in the VEKN tournament rules for 2009.

Putting the link to the current VEKN tournament rules (http://
www.white-wolf.com/vtes/index.php?line=veknRules) in the sidebar of
the official VtES Website ("http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes") instead
on the subpage of event information (http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/
index.php?line=events) would also help to find the tournament rules
better. The link to the rating system deserved a link on the sidebar,
why not the VEKN tournament rules?

Regards, Ralf

For it to be worth it many things need to happen:
1. another has one and plays it on your minions
2. he is able to get in combat with that specific minion
3. he is able to torpor you, despite your defence
4. you are able to play it before your minion is torpored
5. countering the pool damage from the fame is worth playing that
master
6. it is better than any other card you could have put in your deck at
that time (cf secure haven, pentex the rusher, banishment etc)

All this makes me think that in general, kinder cards like that are
poor deck construction practices.
I also think there are too many cards in the library and the crypt :)

You should add some weenie dominate with some deflections and delaying
tactics.
You need to reduce masters (remove duplicates of unqiues, including
secure haven) and add rumors of gehenna and some more mirror image.
Remove all the unecessary actions such as FSR, KRC, sargon fragment,
and reduce Sybil's tongues.

  Imbued plus X

Author: icantbelievehollowboywasalreadytaken

I often run split decks, with 9 Imbued supporting 3 copies of some
star vampire with a unique special ability. The Imbued are usually
there for survival while the star gets set up. The star typically
needs only 10 or so cards to do their thing.

Henry Tailor - a tight 50-card Smiling Jack Twister deck (burn cards
filling in the last slots). Good but fragile.

Jayne Jonestown - normal Imbued tricks to grind down vampires (VD,
Strained Vitae supply etc) plus a "sticky" Society of Leopold. Went
badly, but possibly tweakable to glory.

Antonio d'Erlette - works in theory, but it's hard to have any
poolgain with this deck type, so he and Nephandi are too expensive for
what they add.

Mata Hari - untypical, cos it's a 90-card 5 actions a turn deck with
Arkara Citadel, War Ghoul, Art Scam etc. Not so good, but has many
cute little tricks, like Lear Jet ==> Guruhi Are the Land (then use
the Jet to draw up and discard a conviction).

Are there other tricksy vampires I should consider for this
deckstyle? Or just recommendations in general?

Actually, the list was compiled by several people, including Jon D; I just
formatted it into the web page.

You need to set a basis of power, you know the medium good cards that
everything is benchmarked off, the crap rares, the filler vampires and
the mood and themathic cards (updated Phatagia, for example, isnt a
powerful card imo - a flavourfull one though). These cards might as
well have not been printed for a PG'er if they dont fill a very
specific purpose. We discuss an IC member that has 2 points less than
everyone and will most likely never see a tournament final, he may be
a brainfart or intentionaly worse than his compadres. If you only look
at him in the light that hes 2 points less valuable then the rest of
the IC's then you only view the power gamers side (as in: you want
every bit of point invested in a vampire to count).

Nice plan, but what about a non-ideal situation? :) Eg. 1-2-3
transfers? You can't take out a 2nd Sonja, or can take out Fanchon.
Also what happens if you don't have Fanchon in your uncontrolled?
> III 4 blood on Sonja2, contest, Sonja1 burns

What? Why should your predator(!) give up the contest? O.o
If he keep contesting you will are in trouble.
